Position Overview
The Scientific Director will provide scientific and people leadership for discovery pharmaceutics, supporting therapeutic candidates from early research through candidate selection and transition into development. This role will guide developability assessments, formulation strategies, and drug delivery approaches while collaborating with chemistry, biology, pharmacokinetics, safety, and development teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a multidisciplinary scientific team while promoting technical excellence and innovation.
- Guide physicochemical characterization, developability assessments, and preclinical formulation strategies across multiple therapeutic modalities.
- Develop screening, formulation, computational, and data-driven approaches to strengthen early discovery decisions.
- Address exposure and delivery challenges supporting PK/PD, pharmacology, and tolerability studies.
- Provide scientific guidance for molecular design, formulation selection, and drug delivery strategies.
- Support progression from discovery into development, including formulation planning for toxicology and early clinical studies.
- Identify development risks and establish appropriate mitigation strategies.
Essential Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with 12+ years of relevant experience, or M.S. with 18+ years.
- Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, and developing scientific teams.
- Strong knowledge of discovery pharmaceutics, ADME, preclinical safety, and drug development.
- Expertise in developability assessment, pharmaceutical properties, formulation strategy, and exposure-related challenges.
- Experience supporting synthetic therapeutic modalities and advancing candidates from discovery into development.
- Strong scientific track record with excellent communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
