Motivating your team is an essential task of being a good manager. It is important to try to maintain a consistency in motivation throughout the year, even though the summertime when motivation to work is at its lowest. So, how do you do your part as a manager to keep your team motivated year-round?

Motivation can come from many different areas. Words, energy, and attitude in the workplace influence the motivation levels. Stay upbeat and positive.
Lead by example. Don’t be the “do as I say, not as I do” type of manager. Hypocritical behavior creates an apathetic and distrustful environment, so lead by example always.
Listen. Each individual employees’ motivators and personal and career goals need to be known and taken into account. So, take time to understand the key factors and motivate accordingly.
Clarify goals. Give a refresher meeting regarding company goals. Remind employees of the short-term and long-term goals and what needs to be done to accomplish these goals.
Provide feedback. Recognize achievements and give praise. Catch performance lag before it becomes a problem and point out areas that need improvement.
